Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Detachment #947, who re-established their charter in June of 1996, has a long tradition of supporting various programs which promotes and honors the spirit and traditions of the Marines. The Corps encourages the idea that “a Marine” is an earned title and takes to heart the phrase “Once a Marine, Always a Marine”.
“Improvise, adapt and overcome” are synonymous with Marines and that holds true for our Detachment as well. We have improvised, adapted, and overcome to support our community whether it is visiting veterans at nursing homes, providing snacks to local VA clinics, mentoring local JROTC cadets, donating to veterans in need, providing much needed equipment to local sports venues, providing Marine Honor Guard funeral services for those veterans who have passed, holding local department conventions as well as hosting the 2014 Marine Corps League National Convention. Our goal for the coming months is to increase our membership and to continue to support our community.
Our Detachment needs your commitment in order to accomplish this goal and as your Commandant, I want to thank each member of Detachment #947 for your continued support, dedication, and contributions that you continue to make year after year.
William Owen Stout, Commandant
